And what can a car and a boat with its own universally recognized individuality share if not the engine? Thus was born Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air, the first boat ever to receive the same electric motor envisaged for the future zero-emission Porsche Macan. Both will debut in 2024.
Frauscher is certainly not new to electric navigation, so much so that he has been dealing with it since 1955 and today has his own distinct range of five boats powered exclusively by electricity (indeed, there are now six), but for this exclusive electric motor transplant the two players have chosen one of the traditionally petrol-powered models: the 858 Fantom Air motorboat.
The modifications to the boat are more technical than aesthetic, but the hull remains substantially unchanged, and it couldn’t have been otherwise, because if Porsche can teach about engines, Frauscher can do the same with hulls (seeing is believing!).
Given its provenance, the engine can only promise well, it has therefore only been revised to adapt the propulsion technology of cars for marine use, but in reality Porsche has also had a hand in some aesthetic aspects of this 8-metre speedboat.

The new electric motor in the Porsche Macan will bring the innovative Premium Platform Electric (PPE) automotive propulsion technology to the water.
It is a package of innovations used to design and build the electric motor in question and also make it more efficient in its use.
The Macan engine that will also power the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is therefore a permanently excited synchronous electric propulsion system, i.e. it is a motor that runs on alternating current, whose rotation is synchronized with the electric frequency, and is equipped with permanent excitation, which therefore never demagnetise.
For performance purposes, this gives the advantage of keeping the torque constant over a wider speed range, but also of offering better efficiency at low engine speeds.
The PPE technology also includes the lithium-ion high-voltage battery with a capacity of around 100 kWh which, thanks to Porsche’s 800-volt technology, can be recharged within a short time at both DC and DC fast charging stations both alternate.

It is therefore a boat of 8.67 meters and 2.49 wide, with a displacement that for the petrol model is 2,500 kilos, but on this electric model it will certainly vary; it will be seen whether the (general) lower weight of the zero-emission engine compared to the thermal will not be absorbed too much by the weight of the battery pack.
From the point of view of design, it is a Frauscher, therefore denoting a slender and very soft profile with a so-called modern classic taste, but which does not conform to a purely vintage style, but has its own unique individuality.
The deck features two aft sunbathing areas divided by a central corridor which facilitates transit towards the cockpit.
